XABI COMES UP AGAINST GÜNDOGAN WHO HAS BEEN MENTIONED AS HIS POSSIBLE SUCCESSOR

lkay Gündogan and Xabi Alonso will provide one of the most interesting duels in the Champions League semi-final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid on Wednesday. The young German midfielder and the veteran Spaniard face each other at a time when Gündogan’s name has been mentioned as a possible substitute for Alonso in the Spanish capital.
Many experts see the same attributes in the Borussia player as those enjoyed by the Spain star who has been a vital part of Jose Mourinho’s plans despite a host of niggling injuries throughout the season.Dynamic, long passing with great tactical discipline describe the games of both players.
Gündogan arrived at Borussia as cover for Nuri Sahin when he left for Real Madrid. At only 22 years of age the German, of Turkish origin, has more than surpassed expectations. So much so that his name has been mentioned in the corridors of the Santiago Bernabéu as a possible future signing.
He is one of the best young players in Europe and it does not appear that success has gone to his head. With an extension to Xabi Alonso’s contract currently on hold, the semi-final between the two clubs will serve as a golden opportunity for Gündogan to show his worth.
