SIX IN THE LEAGUE AND TWO IN THE CUP

José Mourinho continues to relish derby games against Atlético de Madrid, especially now that he has been in charge for eight of them, winning all eight. What is more, he is the first ever Real Madrid manager to have achieved four derby wins in a row at the Calderón.
Mourinho has certainly got the measure of Atlético de Madrid. In the three years he has been at Real Madrid he has won the three matches at the Santiago Bernabéu and the three at the Calderón. He has also achieved wins in two cup games, making a total of eight wins against Atlético.
After the match, Mourinho’s assistant, Aitor Karanka, spoke to the press: "This win has given us a lot of motivation, by the way in which it was achieved. We played like a team, they fought together and with humility. We knew that it was going to be a very intense game, and what we were lacking the other day (in Dortmund) was there today – everyone pitched in and showed humility".
"It was not a game with a lot of chances for either side. We knew what the biggest danger would be, and, apart from one from Karim in the first half, we had no big opportunities. We did have the work rate and the keenness of players who don’t get to play all the time", Karanka went on.
"We have to savour this win. It gives us an extra degree of calm, and from tomorrow we'll start thinking about Borussia Dortmund", he concluded, without wanting to make any comment on Tuesday’s match.
