FORMER MADRID PLAYER DREAMS OF BEING A COACH

n his efforts to become a manager, Iván Helguera claims he has learnt a lot about coaching from Mourinho, "but more from Del Bosque".

In an interview given to Luján Argüelles for EFE Radio, Helguera, who is also a radio commentator, has revealed that as an aspiring coach he has learnt "many things" from Mourinho. Although he is quick to admit that occupying this position "you always err on the side of error" and there are "small things" he doesn't like about the Portuguese manager, such as his "attention seeking".
"In my opinion you should be just the opposite, like Del Bosque for example, who credits the players," something that he believes "goes a long way", although he makes it clear he doesn't think the "perfect coach" exists. The former player confessed that football has always been his passion, and points out that he always knew he would become a footballer because with him it's "like an obsession".
Regarding his retirement at Valencia he stated that he felt "really bad" from a sporting perspective, "because there is a real grudge against Real Madrid" and he blames "many of the things that happen at the club" on this fact. What's more, he had a relapse of the same injury he suffered at Real Madrid, which was the main reason he hung up his boots, "because psychologically it was really tough".
When asked about Florentino Pérez's contribution at Real Madrid, he feels the chairman has "helped a lot", above all "on the money side". "He understands figures and I think he's perfect for the part".
