MADRID MISSED OUT ON THREE CLEAR OPPORTUNITIES IN 16 MINUTES

Chances for Higuaín in the 4th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo in the 14th and Mesut Özil's in the 16th, with three goals thereby slipping away at the start of the first half which would have been a shot in the arm for Real Madrid in its attempt at a comeback against Borussia Dortmund.
José Mourinho's men came out fighting but met the might of Weidenfeller in the majority of the cases. Wembley is looking a less certain prospect right now.
Real Madrid hit the ground running in its quest for the first goal. And the chances were there, with a Bernabéu crowd spurring its home team on, but this time the killer finish was missing.
Higuaín was all alone in front of Weidenfeller in the 4th minute but the ball was behind him and his off-balance shot was stopped by the excellent Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper's right foot.
Real Madrid kept up the pressure and, in the 14th minute, the ball bounced towards Cristiano Ronaldo, whose close range volley was body blocked by the German goalkeeper.
The best opportunity came immediately afterwards. Mesut Özil was alone in the opposing midfield; he started a run and went head to head with Weidenfeller while Cristiano Ronaldo raced in. The German chose to take the shot but it went wide with the goalkeeper already on the floor. The chance of a comeback looked then to have slipped away.
