IDUNA PARK HAS TWO PRISON CELLS

The Westfalenstadion in Dortmund - now named Signal Iduna Park under a sponsorship arrangement - isn't a place for bad behaviour both on the pitch and in the stands. While the match referees send off players who act inappropriately, supporters in the ground who lose their rag may end up in prison - inside the stadium.
One of the most curious things about the home to Borussia Dortmund is located in the north end of the stadium, where less than 15 metres from the stand there is a small police station with two prison cells - one for the home fans (on the right) and one for the away fans (on the left). "We made two in order to avoid any scuffles between the opposing fans" MARCA was told by a guide at the German stadium.
The cells have two doors and were designed to house both the most violent supporters as well as those who have been knocking back the beers too much and could pose a threat to security. "We want to create a sporting atmosphere in the stadium, where people only encourage their team, without causing problems. The cells are to prevent disturbances and deal with problematic fans".
Both cells have the capacity to take 130 people in each one. There are no televisions and they are totally soundproof, meaning that supporters who spend time in the cell are completely oblivious to the game.
